Melodies and harmonies of Sun and Hearts meeting, of the dances of Binary Stars and of Resurrection…. guiding voices chanting and hands clapping … answering to the enchantment of the ruins of the Old Timber Shed in Plett, around 15:00 on Sunday 1 October!

Where Everything is Music by Rumi

We have fallen into the place
where everything is music.
The strumming and the flute notes
rise into the atmosphere,
and if the whole world’s harp
should burn up,
there will still be hidden instruments
playing, playing
This singing art
is sea foam.
The graceful movements
come from a pearl
somewhere
on the ocean floor.
Poems reach up like spindrift
and the edge of driftwood
along the beach
wanting, wanting
They derive from a slow
and powerful root
that we cannot see.
Stop the words now.
Open the window
in the center of your chest,
and let the spirits fly
in and out!

In the words of Annie le Roux: The primordial landscape of the wild is where I am inspired to start my work.

‘It is only in the primordial landscape of the wild where silence, smells, wind, tides, sun, dust and rain still has a profound transcendent and palpable impact on our awareness and state of being. This consciousness in turn accentuates our vulnerability, nurtures our humility, and fosters the tender sense of our human limitations. It is from this fragile space where I am inspired to start my work’.

Our aim is to create over 1000 protea-images, in any and all styles, by 7 June 2018, one year after the fire.

What is #protea.people

A crowdfunded campaign honouring creative potential by providing opportunities and solutions to assist those affected in the 2017 Knysna fires.

The Protea, South Africa’s national flower, has to burn, in order to propogate and seed new plants.

In Knysna and Plettenbergbay, the 7 – 11 June 2017-fires affected over 1000 homes, businesses, studios and workshops. They were either completely or partially destroyed, each with their own delicate and very real-life story, and the subsequent loss of tools, equipment, art and art making material.

If you plan for one year, plant rice.
If you plan for ten years, plant trees.
If you plan for a lifetime, plant people.
–Confucius

We are deeply honoured and excited to introduce the #protea.people fund. Our aim is to create over 1000 protea-images – in any and all styles, by all who are interested, each valued at R100, by 7 June 2018, one year after the fire.

A word in closing, dear friends….. let me take you into the future, …some time from now. If Proteas seed and grow after burning, in your minds eye, ……three, four generations from now, just imagine the ample, new, abundant plants, flowers and infinite amounts of seeds, that is potentially ignitied through the burning-sowing-germinating of these over 1000 initial #protea.people! Spectacular indeed!

Dear friends. We are extending an invitation to join us for Green Mountain 2017. On 7 June 2017, devastating fires destroyed over 1000 homes in the greater Knysna and Bitou Municipal district. Green Mountain 2017 is about mapping the new growth through land art.

Where opulent green vistas once greeted the eye, now the lemon green stalks piercing charcoal soil, is an ever-present reminder of the fierce courage, the unquenchable spirit and the evergreen hope residing in the Infinite Life Intelligence.

Growth is the inevitable evidence of this hope, intrinsically holding the promise of movement, expansion, entropy, unfolding and imploding, in an ever evolving fluid existence, governed by laws of beauty, harmony and order , …Golden Mean …Fibonacci … sunflowers and pine cones… More details and the program can be found in the Green Mountain 2017 section of the website.

Celebrating the Crocodile River Reserve

8 – 11 September 2016

After many years the custodians of the land around the Jukskei, Hennops and Crocodile rivers were recently rewarded for their perseverance and tenacity with the area acquiring its formal Reserve status. The Green Mountain organisation explores and facilitates conversations between man and nature, arts and science, head and heart.

Explore the area and its history through sound and indigenous music, ancient stories and poetry. The land offers a unique recreational space for Gauteng residents to unwind, rest and partake in environmentally aware activities. Come and join us as we celebrate both the journey to official reserve status and speculate, create and share in ideas for the future of this wonderful space.
